First of all, the adaptive format seems to be really interesting, although the sample test didn’t have that feature.
In the actual test, the problems get harder when you choose the right answer, and they get easier when you don’t do well, just like the famous taiko master game.

I guess it would be good for them because they can get more accurate scores by solving problems based on their individual English level. I’m looking forward to taking the actual TOEFL Essentials.

The TOEFL iBT provides quite deep topics and I always end up thinking too much. TOEFL Essentials, on the other hand, gives us short and fast tasks so you don’t end up overthinking.

Those who take too much time to make up their mind might want to take the TOEFL Essentials, since it has more simple and faster-paced tasks.

Even though it was a lecture, the vocabulary they used wasn’t so hard. I have Eiken pre1 and I was able to understand it without any struggle.

That’s great to hear! That’s like when you go to work. First, you get ready in the morning, automatically walk to the station, and then you get on the train, and before you know it you’re at work. It’s those things that are so simple that you forget that you did them!

The last long passage about the planet Venus was a little bit difficult and I couldn’t understand every word in the passage. However, I could guess the meaning through context, so I was able to pick the answers out of the multiple choices.

Just like the iBT, science, environment, and history are very common topics on the Essentials test. So it’s important to keep this in mind when doing reading practice.

One thing I got confused about was the part where there is one sentence and you have to choose the place in the passage where it fits best.

Even for me, that’s the most difficult part, but if you read one of the articles we will make about reading, you will be able to understand!

Same thing with the lecture discussion writing. Unlike the email task, you should come up with your own idea to write from scratch. Also since time is limited, you shouldn’t take too much time on thinking about what to write, so you should just use the first idea that comes to mind.

For these kinds of writing tasks, students tend to worry too much about being perfect. Remember it’s an English profiency exam and you won’t be scored by how brilliant your ideas are, but how well you explain and support them.

I think both the email and lecture tasks can be written with the English that you learned in middle school and high school. So make sure to practice explaining things and situations that you encounter in your daily life.

The “read aloud” and the “listen and repeat” tasks were super easy because all I had to do was just repeat what I read or listened to. I just needed to concentrate so I wouldn’t forget what I heard.

You can always practice reading aloud or repeating what people say, like using Youtube for instance, at home. What about the virtual interview?

For the TOEFL iBT, there are some problems that you have to summarize an academic topic and give your opinion but the this sample test only asks questions about the examinee, so you can’t be like “I don’t know what to say.” Just give your own honest thoughts and opinions. It might be similar to IELTS.
